I'm Patricia Ortega, a native Spanish teacher from Spain, and I teach medical Spanish to nurses who care for Spanish-speaking patients.
I've taught English to Spanish speakers and Spanish to adults from the Sahel and the Maghreb — people who needed the language for real, urgent reasons.
Why medical Spanish? Years ago, I got very sick in a hotel room in India. I speak English well, but I was so sick I couldn't get a single word out in English, let alone understand the people trying to help me.
That day I learned that when you're sick, you need someone who speaks your language. For your patients, that language is Spanish.
I'm not a nurse, and I don't teach clinical protocols — you already know those. I teach the language: the questions, instructions and reassuring words your patients need to hear, pronounced so they understand you.
ER, ICU, pediatrics, med-surg, oncology, labor & delivery, home health… Every class is built around your patients and your real situations.
Because knowing some words isn't the same as holding a conversation when your patient starts talking fast.
Not by level — by what you want to be able to do with your patients.
